Featuring a diverse array of twelve trails, predominantly designed for intermediate skill levels, App caters seamlessly to both novice and intermediate riders with its manageable 365 vertical feet. The slopes are accessible until 10 p.m. on weeknights and extend until midnight on weekends, providing ample opportunity and flexibility to ski when or however long you want!

Other Activities at App Ski
Online reservations are required. Skating sessions are offered from 12 – 2pm, 3 – 5pm, and 7 – 9pm. This year, Appalachian Ski Mountain is also hosting Moonlight Skating on New Years Eve from 10pm – 12am. Private ice skating lessons are available for $40 per lesson.
Sugar Mountain Resort
13 miles about 30 minutes from The Getaway
Sugar Mountain offers the perfect blend of thrilling expert trails and smooth green and blue runs. With eight lifts, including efficient six-passenger options and a cutting-edge high-speed line, the resort guarantees a swift ascent to the 1,200-foot peak in just over two minutes. As the largest ski area in the region, Sugar stands out for its expansive trail network and caters to seasoned skiers and snowboarders with an abundance of challenging runs.

Other Activities at Sugar Mountain
Now offering the largest snow tubing park in the Southeast, Hawksnest! Offering tubing in up to 30 lanes each around 400 to 1,000 feet long, with tubing located in four separate park areas. Individual tubing tickets must be purchased in person at the tubing park. Online and phone sales are not available.
10,000 square foot refrigerated outdoor ice skating rink is located adjacent to parking lot D and the Tubing Park. Tickets are first come first serve, and go one sale 1 hour prior to each session. Private skating sessions are available by appointment, last 30 minutes, and can be booked by calling their main office at (828-295-7828). Children ages 11 and under are required to skate with a parent and have a waiver signed and submitted. To book tickets and complete the waiver online, please click here. A snowshoe guided tour can be a casual walk or an intense workout in a wonderful winter wonderland. Each tour is one hour long and includes a snowshoe rental. Tours are available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 3:00pm; Saturdays at 9:00am and 3:00pm.

Beech Mountain is home to the highest ski area not only in North Carolina but also in the entire Eastern United States and features 8 lifts accessing 17 trails. If you are feeling extra adventurous don’t miss out on The Park Beech Mountain Resort’s freestyle terrain section. It’s a state-of-the-art terrain park with a highly-skilled crew that consistently creates a fun and innovative space to ride. The crew focuses on regularly reshaping, reinventing and rotating features from a vast inventory to ensure riders always have something new to enjoy.

Other Activities at Beech Mountain
Book your tickets online, weekday sessions are $40 per person, and weekend sessions are $48. Each session lasts one hour and thirty minutes. Be sure to arrive early to allow time for parking and to redeem your tubing tickets from the Lower Ticket Booth. For an extra dose of fun, Cosmic Snow Tubing also offers evening sessions featuring lights and music for a one of a kind nighttime experience!
